Cat Emergencies

Accidents happen and if you have an emergency call us. Over the phone we may ask you some simple questions to help us prepare for your arrival. If no vet is available our qualified nurses will help triage and begin first aid support ahead of the vet examining and diagnosing the situation. Our whole team is qualified to help and will all do their utmost no matter the emergency.

+ What would count as an emergency?

In simple terms, anything that has you suddenly worried and stressed about your pet is an emergency. In such instances it is better to contact us and we can discuss over the phone if it is a problem that needs to be seen immediately, later in the day or within the week.

Key symptoms that warrant immediate attention:

Collapse
Profuse Bleeding
Dramatic trauma (e.g. Car accident)
Struggling to breath
Male cat struggling to urinate
Poisoning

In all cases, try to remain calm. Our pets tend to react to our reactions and the more worried we are, the more worried they tend to be. So the take home is, if you are worried call us!

+ I am still unsure if it is an emergency

If your concern does not fit in the categories above then we will look to triage your cat before booking an emergency appointment. Triage will take place with our nurse and if they believe your pet needs immediate care, they will ensure this is achieved and arrange the consultation with a vet. If your concern is important but not an immediate emergency, they will organise an appointment with a vet at a later time during normal consulting hours. This may, or may not, be the same day depending on the availability and severity of your cat's condition.
