+ How it can help?
Vaccinations are used in many species, including humans, and they all work with a similar principle. The goal is to boost the body’s immune system so it is better able to fight off infections should they come into contact with the relevant disease. By using a controlled exposure to particular viruses and bacteria, we ensure that your dog’s immunity is best primed to protect itself.
Thankfully, as a result of widespread vaccination of our pets, many of the most severe diseases we protect against are seen infrequently. This does however lead to some complacency on the need for vaccination and potentially expose our pets to undue risks. More information on the specific diseases we cover for is available below*.
The best way to prevent the diseases below is to vaccinate and to do so annually. Along with the vaccination is a comprehensive health examination and check carried out in the clinic so you can be assured that your dog’s health is as good as we can make it together.
+ What conditions does it help with?
Core Vaccinations
- Distemper
- Hepatitis
- Parvovirus
- Leptospirosis
Kennel Cough Vaccination
- Parainfluenza
- Bordatella bronchiseptica
Other vaccinations
- Rabies* - See Travelling abroad with my dog
+ How long does the treatment take?
The health examination and administering the vaccination takes about 15 minutes. If you have any concerns these may take longer to understand and diagnose.
We will only vaccinate a pet deemed sufficiently healthy and so any concern that we may identify will need to be treated and resolved before administering a vacciantion.
+ How many visits are required?
For a primary course of vaccinations this will require 3 visits to give the maximum protection.
For booster vaccinations these will be carried out annually. Not every disease needs to be topped up annually but for leptospirosis and the kennel cough pathogens, annual boosting is essential.
+ How much does it cost?
All our prices are outlined in our Price list tab above.
Rabies vaccinations will need to be discussed with James or another “Official Veterinarian” – see travelling abroad with my dog
