Featured Pet: Milly

For Our Featured Pet of this Month, we chose Milly who is a beautiful 8-year-old domesticated shorthair cat.

Milly came into the practice with urinary problems after a full investigation from James and the team we had to perform surgery on her as we discovered she had bladder stones. We wanted to ask Milly’s owner some questions on how Milly is at home and how they have coped with her diagnosis.

1.      What is Milly’s favourite thing to do?

Milly loves to sleep, especially on my daughter’s bed. She is so loving and cuddly.

2.      Has Milly’s diagnosis changed her personality?

It has changed Milly’s personality for the better, she is so much brighter. She has started to chase butterflies, since having her procedure done Milly has become more active, though she doesn’t like going out for long.

3.      How have you adapted to Milly’s diagnosis?

We have adapted quite well to Milly’s new routine. Milly has to have special urinary food, so we have to ensure she has the correct amount each day. Also we have to make sure she drinks plenty of water. We are also having to maintain her weight as it was advised she needed to lose a bit.

I am always home, so it makes it easier to monitor Milly.

4.      What do you enjoy about Milly?

Cuddling up to Milly, she is so loving. I love waking up to her in the morning and being close to her. Milly is definitely happier, and when I am home alone she thrives for wanting personal company and attention.

5.      How did you know Milly had this condition?

Milly wasn’t herself; she was skitty, lethargic and flat. We were noticing blood stains on her bedding, our beds and on the floor and knew this wasn’t normal for Milly. The previous veterinary centre we took Milly to didn’t pick up on the problem at the time before we moved to James’ vets. We wanted to make sure we were doing the right thing, we decided to get another opinion on Milly. When we took Milly to James Horner Vets, James picked up on Milly’s problem straight away.

6.      Where did you find further information about Milly’s condition?

We looked up online Milly’s condition just so we could get more of an understanding, and before we even went to the vet we searched her symptoms and it did clarify what she was diagnosed with.

7.      What advice would you give to others who have a pet with the same condition as Milly?

I would tell the owners to seek veterinary advice and to get further investigations done if their pet isn’t well. Also ensure you tell the vet every detail of the problem/symptoms and to explain to the vet the problem they make think it is, as that is what we did and we were right.
