Pet of the Month! Mollie!

Mollie is a beautiful 6-year-old crossbreed, she has been in to see us regularly as she hasn’t been very well. Unfortunately, Mollie had cancer in one of her toes and it had become so severely infected that she had to undergo a full fore limb amputation.

We wanted to speak to Mollies owners to get a bit of an in-sight of how she was pre-operation and how she is now post operatively. Mollie thankfully has made a good recovery and is thriving day by day.

1.      What is Mollie’s favourite thing to do?

Mollie loves playing with her tennis ball, and she sometimes hold on to her sisters tail and races around the garden to play. She has her favourite toy to play with which is a Father Christmas stuffed toy that she absolutely adores.

2.     Has the diagnosis changed Mollie’s personality?

At the start it did change her a little bit as she was more tired than usual, she was quieter which isn’t like Mollie. But now she is starting to adapt to the change, she still loves people just as much and now she realises that when she says hello to people she can lean on them to support her.

3.     How have you adapted?

At first it was tough, and we did struggle but now we are managing, because she can’t go out for walks as long as we used to do, it is limiting which we are trying to get used to. Mollie loved the outdoors, but we just have to be-careful when out on walks as she does get tired quicker and being a big dog it isn’t easy to pick her up, but we have adapted.

4.     Has Mollie changed your daily routine?

Yes; she did at the beginning of this whole procedure as we had to make sure she was getting her medication on time; that she was comfortable and that she was toileting fine. But now post operatively we are gradually going back to our normal routine and it’s just the walks that have changed.

5. What do you enjoy about Mollie?

Mollie’s nature is the best. She is just so friendly and gorgeous. She loves to people please even after everything she has been through she truly is amazing.

6. Where did you find further information from regarding Mollie’s diagnosis?

I did search online, just to look into the type of cancer she had got diagnosed with for my own understanding. I was given a lot of advice from the vets at James Horner Vets, which helped a lot as everything Mollie was going through was overwhelming and they reassured me throughout the process of getting Mollie better.

7.     What advice would you give to others?

Don’t feel like you’re wasting anyone’s time. If you are worried by anything see the vet straight away. As time is of the essence and that little thing you may want to hold off on can lead to something life changing.

Mollie thankfully now is doing really well, but had we have waited we may have had even more complications than we already had.
