5 Minutes with Sophie L

Have you always wanted to be a Vet Nurse?

No! I left school and wanted to be a sports physio. I did work experience at Pertemps Bees Rugby club then as a Christmas present my other half got me a dog, called Bailey. I finished the course I was doing at the time and then became a VCA (veterinary care assistant). Then a year after coming a VCA I became a Vet Nurse.

Do you have a favourite animal?

Definitely dogs. My favourite breed is an XL Bully having my own handsome boy (Blue Bear)!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Socialise with my friends and family. I like to visit National Trust sites. My favourite era is War of the Roses. I love going out for food, especially steak & chips. Also like drinking and going to the rugby!

Have you ever worked with exotics?

Yes - I worked for 13 years alongside an exotic specialist! Mainly bearded dragons & snakes (I’m not keen on snakes!) and we saw a lot of rabbits there!

How long have you been an RVN for?

I started my nurse training in 2009, then qualified in 2012 and have been in veterinary practices ever since.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

San Diego. I do love Sydney but it’s so expensive. I would love to visit again sometime in the future. To be honest, I just enjoy beach holidays - sun, sea and sand!
