How can it help?

Dental disease can vary from a sudden tooth root infection or fractured tooth, to a slow deterioration of gum integrity with bacteria led disease. The first type are easier to spot and usually cause notable painful behaviours in our pets, whilst a slow deterioration tends to happen insidiously and our pets learn to “cope” with the pain and discomfort that builds.

Looking is the first step to understanding the situation. Opening and physically checking your pet’s mouth is something you can do at home. Spotting the early signs of gum disease through red gums, discoloured teeth, or the build up of tartar, will mean smaller, less expensive, interventions are needed, rather than waiting for serious problems to occur.

Prevention is better than cure

More regular, less traumatic interventions are always the best option. In house we are able to undertake surgical extractions, as well as routine “scale + polish”. The latter is less traumatic and shorter, and helps with keeping tartar and plaque under control. If your pet refuses to let you brush their teeth, then an annual, or bi-annual scale and polish will be the next best intervention to keep their breath nice and mouth healthy!

What conditions does it help with?

A Dental Examination with Scale and Polish includes:

  • Full general anaesthetic

  • Removal of all tartar and plaque

  • Probing and gentle examination of all teeth, gum attachments and surrounding tissues

  • Examination of the far back of the throat

  • Charting of teeth to provide a long term record of dental health

  • If any extractions are needed then these will be undertaken with your consent

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

A Dental Examination with a Scale and Polish is a day procedure. Most pets will be admitted in the morning and then discharged in the afternoon.

HOW MANY VISITS ARE REQUIRED

Dental care is a life-long requirement. Individual procedures will take a single visit but regular check-ups and guidance may be needed depending on the level of dental health your pet has

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

  • Dental Examination with Scale + Polish (DESP) £250.00

  • Dental Extractions* with DESP £550.00

*In some instances all extractions will not be able to be carried out safely. This will require a multi-stage procedure and will have a total repeat cost
