Pet Socialisation

Effectively socialising your puppy is a critical step in bringing up your new dog.  Your puppy is at their most receptive from 12 weeks to 16 weeks. This optimum socialisation period is when your new pup is open to new experiences without having any pre-formed expectations on what to look forward to, or what to be fearful of.  The general rule of thumb is to expose your new pup to as many normal-life events as possible so they don’t develop any fears, phobias or anxiety related concerns.

+ How can it help?

A well socialised puppy is less anxious, more friendly, bolder and far less stressful to have at home.

Knowing what to do, what noises to expose your puppy to, what events, can be daunting. Poor experiences will happen as often as great ones. Support from our team will be hugely important in helping you stay focused on what is important and your goals for helping your pup develop.

Our team are brimming with experience and able to support and guide you and your puppy on their development journey. Key to keeping your pups healthy is being comfortable with visiting the vet, so the more we see you, the better it is for them!

+ What can it help with?

Good socialising helps with all manner of potential problems including:

  • Less stress for your pet
  • Better night’s sleep
  • Reduce separation anxiety
  • Less aggression
  • Easier to treat illness and disease
  • Fewer noise phobias (e.g. fireworks or vacuum cleaners)
  • More enjoyable trips to the vet…!

+ How long does the treatment take?

Advisory visits with our nurses can be as long or as short as you like. Generally, many short visits are better than one long one. Not only do you get short, bite size bits of information, but you also expose your puppy to many enjoyable trips to the practice, two benefits for one action!

+ How many visits are required?

Puppy and dog behaviour is a huge subject and whilst one visit may be able to give you general advice points, to understand your challenges and offer bespoke advice, several trips will be needed.

+ How much does it cost?

The best way to maximise the effectiveness of our advice is to join one of our wellness subscriptions. For puppies, our nursing packages are great. You can visit our qualified nurses as often as you need to understand all you want.
